2017 Humanitarian Awards Banquet & Fundraiser Thursday, May 18, 2017, 6:00 p.m. DoubleTree by Hilton Community Action Partnership of Kern (CAPK) will host its Humanitarian Awards Banquet and Fundraiser on Thursday, May 18, 2017, at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Bakersfield. The highlight of the Humanitarian Awards Banquet, which traditionally takes place in May, observed as Community Action Month nationwide, is the opportunity to recognize champions in Community Action at the individual, community partner and volunteer levels. These are individuals or agencies that have demonstrated involvement in one or more CAPK programs, as well as their support of the Promise of Community Action, which "Changes people's lives, embodies the spirit of hope, improves communities and makes America a better place to live." The Humanitarian Awards Banquet also serves as our agency's largest fundraising event of the year. Join CAPK, and stand with us in our efforts to diminish the effects of poverty in our community. Your support will allow us to meet children and families at their point of need, and provide them with the hope of becoming self-sufficient contributors to our community. Last year, the work and services of CAPK touched the lives of more than 150,000 of your neighbors, co-workers and family members by: Distributing 13.5 million pounds of food for the food insecure; Delivering nutrition and breastfeeding awareness and support to some 20,000 women, infants and children; Serving more than 800,000 meals to Head Start and Summer Meals Program children; Providing utility assistance for close to 10,000 families; Offering after school and summer programs for hundreds of at-risk youth in Southeast Bakersfield and Shafter; Delivering early childhood education and preschool to some 3,000 children; Making close to 112,000 human and social services referrals to callers seeking assistance through 2-1-1 Kern.
